Meg York moved to Evergreen from New Mexico in 1997. Meg has
played woodwinds for two decades including clarinet, saxophone,
flute and recorders and has a college degree in Clarinet Performance
and continues her education by studying with many master musicians
of both western and world music traditions.
Meg
plays with "Sherefe" a Boulder based Middle Eastern
and Balkan music group, directs the "Kocopelli Consort"
a classical chamber ensemble, and "Scheherazade",
a fusion group. She has toured internationally with "Universidad
de Las Americas Orchestra" and "Natividad Flamenca",
a Flamenco troupe. She also plays in music theater projects,
community orchestras, weddings and dances. Meg attends and
presents at summer workshops including the "Mendocino
Balkan and Middle East Camps", "Festival Flamenco
Internacional", and the "International Clarinet
Association Conferences". She is a member of the "International
Clarinet Association", "Chamber Music America"
and "Easter European Folklife Center".
Ms.
York has taught music for many years to students of all ages.
She directed the music program at Evergreen Academy for two
years and now teaches at Evergreen School of Music. She has
taught band programs and at summer camps. She takes her student
clarinet choir to the International Clarinet Association Conferences
and conducts "Camp Clarinoodle:, her own summer clarinet
choir seminar. Her students have participated in All-County,
All-District, NM All-State, NM Honor and Colorado Honor bands
as well as her own frequent studio recitals.
