  • Master of Music Performance, University of Southern California, 1988
  • Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, section cello, 1989-1992
  • New Century Chamber Orchestra, 1995-present
  • Colorado Chamber Players

I am a freelance cellist and have been working in the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 14 years, and as such I find myself involved in a variety of musical projects. I perform with local orchestras, record movie soundtracks, play for Broadway shows, and do some backup string work for pop artists when they come through town. I am also a member of a Grammy nominated, conductorless string ensemble called the New Century Chamber Orchestra with whom I perform chamber ensemble concerts as well as string orchestra concerts. I also perform with a string quartet that performs an educational program under the auspices of the San Francisco Symphony for all the first and second grade students in the San Francisco Unified School District (around 145 concerts per year).

What follows is a listing of some of the musical experiences I've had and artists I've worked with over the last decade or so.

Performed with: Smokey Robinson, Michael Crawford (US Tour), Henry Mancini orchestra (Japan Tour 1997), Percy Faith orchestra (Japan Tour 2003, 2005), Keely Smith, Bjork, Joni Mitchell, Sheryl Crow, Mannheim Steamroller, Moody Blues, Barry Manilow, San Francisco Jazz Festival performances with Charlie Haden and Shirley Horn.

New Century Chamber Orchestra: some of the artists I've worked with while with this orchestra. Charles Neidich, clarinet; Billy Childs, piano; Terry Riley, composer and keyboards; Simon Rattle, conductor; Krista Bennion-Fenney, violin; Frederica von Stade, mezzo-soprano; Zheng Cao, mezzo-soprano; Nuccia Focile, soprano; Stuart Canin, violin; Lou Harrison, composer; John Aler, tenor; David Tanenbaum, guitar; Chris Gekker, trumpet; Jeffrey Kahane, piano

Some of the show stuff I've done on the broadway theatre scene in San Francisco: Showboat, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, The Dead, Phantom of the Opera, Some Like it Hot, A Little Night Music, West Side Story, The Lion King (10 months), and LeStat.

Recording credits include several CD's with New Century Chamber Orchestra (our Shostakovich cd received a Grammy nomination in 2000), commercial jingles, and major motion picture soundtracks including Spy Kids, Once Upon A Time in Mexico, Hell Boy, The Game, The Great Outdoors, Inspector Gadget, Less Than Zero, Bicentennial Man, Jurassic Park III, Michael Jordan To The Max, and Running Mates.

My teaching experience has primarily been private students. I taught cello at the Marin Waldorf School (2002), and helped develop and perform education concerts for the New Century Chamber Orchestra and the Adventures in Music program of the San Francisco Symphony. I was also part of a quartet in residence at San Francisco State University (1992-94) in which one of our responsibilities was to teach the private students and chamber groups when the faculty quartet was out of town on tour.
