From the time he switched to trumpet from piano at the age of 9 years old, Jeff Uban knew that the trumpet was going to be the instrument on which he would become an accomplished player.
Born in Waterford, Michigan in 1983 Uban says that much of his training is credited to former principal trumpet of the Detroit Symphony, Frank DiBlassi.
While in High School Uban toured the world with the Blue Lake International Jazz Band and Symphony Band, and a few years later played Carnegie Hall with the Flint Youth Symphony.
After graduation Uban attended the University of Michigan-Flint for two years and was principal trumpet in the concert and Jazz bands. In 2002 he transferred to Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan to finish his Bachelor Degree in Music Performance. He is currently working towards his Masters Degree in Music at The University of Denver.
While at Grand Valley Uban studied Jazz and Classical trumpet with Richard Stoelzel and Kurt Ellenberger. He became a 3 time national finalist (NTC), "Jazz Scholarship Winner" (ITG), and "Outstanding Soloist" at the Elmhurst, Aquinas, and Northern Colorado, Greely Jazz Festivals.
Uban continues to compose in many genres of music including Jazz, Pop, Gospel and Classical and continues to play professionally. Along with teaching clinics and master classes, Uban has multiple studio recordings with different artists including the National Cinemas and has toured with the Broadway show; "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." Past performances have been with; Wynton Marsalis, Jim McKneely, Lynn Seaton, Rob Smith, Tim Froncek, Todd Reynolds, Rob Foster, Kurt Ellenberger Trio, Sunny Wilkinson, Rayna English, Orchestra Sensational, Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, Truth in Jazz Orchestra, and Jovino Santos Neto.
